 MAME v0.273 (64-bit)
Mardi 31/12/24 à 17:51 par Firebrand
La dernière version de MAME est en retard par rapport au calendrier habituel, mais elle arrive néanmoins à se caser à temps en 2024. Voici la liste des changements:
It looks like MAME 0.273 has made it just in time for the end of 2024! First of all, if you want to build MAME with Microsoft’s IDE, you’ll need to switch to Visual Studio 2022 and ensure you have an up-to-date version of the Visual C++ compiler. (There’s lots more useful information about building MAME from source code on the relevant documentation page.)
Microcontrollers for Sun Electronics Kangaroo and Data East E.D.F.: Earth Defense Force have been dumped and emulated. This fixes several issues where the simulation was incorrect for Kangaroo, affecting gameplay and sound. Speaking of which, there have been quite a few fixes for sound issues in arcade games this month.
Regional variants of the Apple II computer line allowed the user to switch between US English mode and local mode, affecting the display character set and the keyboard layout. This release greatly improves support for language selection and adds support for several European Apple IIe and Apple IIc variants. In other Apple emulation news, the ’030-based PowerBook series is coming to life: you might want to try out the PowerBook 140, 160, 170 and 180 or variants thereof.
There’s lots more in this release, including more Amiga sound and video cards, CPU emulation fixes, and better DMA behaviour for emulated Sound Blaster cards.

 Lunar Magic v3.51
Jeudi 26/12/24 à 21:58 par Firebrand
Cet éditeur de niveau pour Super Mario World a été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
This release of Lunar Magic is mainly just for adding support for custom overworld sprite list sizes, but it also has a few other minor changes and fixes.

- added support for a sprite size table for custom overworld sprites. Check the help file for more details.
- added a setting to General Options that can adjust the size of the main and custom toolbar in the level editor window, and the toolbar in the overworld editor window.
- tweaked the new PC to SNES color conversion from 3.50 a bit. Thanks goes out to Green for prompting me to look into it.
- fixed an issue where Microsoft apparently hasn't updated the version 5 common controls in the OS to deal with larger mouse pointers that end up covering parts of tooltips that are supposed to appear just below the mouse cursor. Also fixed an issue where Microsoft hasn't updated the version 5 or version 6 controls to deal with the newer mouse pointer size slider setting in Windows 10+ that causes the same type of tooltip problem. Thanks goes out to Mapsking for bringing this up.

 vAmiga v3.0
Jeudi 26/12/24 à 21:53 par Firebrand
Cet émulateur Amiga pour MacOS a été mis à jour après une série de beta. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
v3.0:

Enhancements:
- Prometheus support (#850)

Bug fixes:
- Fixed an ECS PAL/NTSC switching bug (#851)

v3.0b3:

Enhancements:
- vAmiga can parse SDL controller descriptions, thus supporting a much broader variety of gamepads now (#843).

Bug fixes:
- Fixed a write-protection bug related to hard drives (#844).
- Resuming the emulator in warp mode no longer unmutes audio (#849).

v3.0b2:

Bug fixes
- Inserting floppy disks failed to work for some file formats such as EXE files (#842).
- Fixed a bug that routed some key events to the Amiga keyboard instead of RetroShell (#842).
- The CIA panel occasionally reported idle times exceeding 100%.

v3.0b1

I’m proud to announce that vAmiga is now available as version 3.0! This update introduces run-ahead support (#836), a functionality that had recently been integrated into VirtualC64.
When run-ahead is enabled, two emulator instances run side by side: the primary instance and the run-ahead instance. The primary instance emulates the Amiga as usual, while the run-ahead instance runs several frames ahead and generates the image texture. Both emulator instances stay in sync with a time delay, and any changes in the primary instance, e.g., triggered by a joystick event, forces the run-ahead instance to be recreated. Run-ahead mode is meant for gaming as it considerably decreases the lag between an external event, e.g., a gamepad or keyboard event, and its recognition inside the emulator.
Accommodating this feature required significant changes to vAmiga’s architecture, resulting in a major update to the codebase. While these improvements have streamlined the internal workings of the emulator, they’ve also introduced some bugs - an expected outcome with such a substantial change.
As vAmiga 3.0 is currently in beta, your feedback is crucial to help me refine and stabilize the software.

Other enhancements:
- Snapshot compression (#840)
- Loading and saving memory contents (#823)
- Improved Headless app (#839)
- RetroShell as as serial port device (#820)
- Beamtrap debug feature (#817)
- RetroShell commands via the command line (-"")

Bug fixed:
- Fixed a crash when saving a machine state (#833)
- Fixed a bug in the CIA sleep logic (#819)

 Nestopia - Undead Edition v1.53.0
Mardi 24/12/24 à 20:06 par Firebrand
Cet émulateur NES a été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- This release ties up some loose ends at the core level, allowing more flexibility for some homebrew and hacks using MMC3 and VRC2/4 variants. There is now support for the NES 2.0 Default Expansion Device field, which allows the ROM header to specify the preferred input devices. Also supported are official releases for the Virtual Console and NES Remix. Support for mapper 555 (Campus Challenge 1991) is the final icing on the cake.
- The major change for this release is for users of the FLTK build. It has been nearly entirely rewritten from the ground up. Refer to the ChangeLog for details. If you are a packager, please note that FLTK 1.4 is preferred, though 1.3 will still work aside from on macOS. Wayland is now supported explicitly by FLTK, but this code is not as mature as the X11 code, so your mileage may vary.
- macOS support is improving, but still not quite production quality. The plan is to have it up to par for the next release.

Shell:

Changes:
- FLTK: Major rewrite to become a Nestopia-specific "Jolly Good API" frontend
- FLTK: Use libsamplerate directly instead of relying on SDL's abstraction
- FLTK: Better looking theme
- FLTK: Window is freely resizable and the image scales to the window size
- FLTK: Codebase is now ISO C++17
- FLTK: Far better support for macOS

Additions:
- FLTK: Support for significantly more input devices
- FLTK: Joystick hotplugging
- FLTK: All UI controls may be assigned to a joystick button
- FLTK: Aspect ratio options
- FLTK: OpenGL 3.1/GLES 3.0 renderer with shaders
- FLTK: Configurable overscan masking on all edges
- FLTK: Drag and Drop support
- FLTK: Support FDS microphone using a real microphone/headset
- FLTK: Support for loading XML Romsets
- win32: Support for loading VC/NES Remix ROMs

Core:

Additions:
- Support for loading Virtual Console/NES Remix format ROMs
- Support NES 2.0 Default Expansion Device field
- Add support for Mapper 555 (EVENT2)

Fixes:
- Better support for MMC3 hacks with large WRAM, CHR RAM, or PRG ROM sizes
- VRC heuristics improvement to help with VRC hacks and homebrew
- Handle NES 2.0 Mapper 30 special battery flag case

 GameEx v18.91
- GameEx and GameEx Arcade Edition have been combined into a single installer and should cover every Windows operating system since and including XP. I spent a lot of time optimizing and cleaning up the installer as well as testing on many operating systems and platforms. They both share the same files and config but the Setup Wizard will show the appropriate options for both versions.
- Main thing to note when upgrading for the first time is the install will use the install folder for GameEx not Arcade Edition.
- It seems like a simple nice and obvious improvement but all this required a lot of work and testing.
- It does mean one installer build and upload for me too which helps.
- There are also a few bug fixes and optimizations.
