 ares v136
Samedi 24/02/24 à 17:23 par Firebrand
Cet émulateur multi-systèmes a été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
Border/Overscan overhaul
- When ares was initially designed, it was geared primarily towards SNES emulation, and as such the "Overscan" option in video settings behaved like the overscan feature of the SNES: showing or hiding the lower 16 lines of display. This behavior is not how most end users expect overscan to function.
- For ares v136, we have overhauled how borders and overscan is handled across all cores in ares.
- The overscan option has been reworked to show or hide all non-desirable edges of the screen (in most cases this is blank borders, but it can include areas that commonly just contain garbage pixels).
- Additionally, we have updated most of the emulator cores in ares to have hardware accurate border and aspect ratio when overscan is visible: this also includes PAL, so PAL games are finally rendered at the correct aspect ratio to real hardware when 'aspect ratio correction' is enabled.
- NOTE: The border regions for All TMS9918 VDP based consoles are thought to be be correct, as are Master System, Mega Drive, and NES, while SNES and PC-Engine are (educated) estimates. Hiding the overscan area is not yet implemented for Atari 2600, PC-Engine, Nintendo 64 or PlayStation as more hardware verification is required.

Cheat Support
- A popular request: ares finally has support for cheat codes, as well as a cheat editor. You can access the cheat editor by going to Tools -> Cheats while a game is loaded.
- Cheats are currently implemented for all cores, except for Nintendo 64 and PlayStation: support for these requires larger changes to ares that did not make the cut for this release.
- The cheat code format is a simple patch code format XXXXXXXX:YY where X is an address, and Y is the data to write; most emulators support this format so it shouldn't be difficult to port cheats between them.
- It is possible to chain multiple codes into a single cheat entry by separating the codes with a + symbol; this is useful if a single cheat requires multiple code to work.
- Cheats are saved in a cheat database file alongside the rom: for example, Game.sfc will create a cheat file titled Game.cheats.bml.

Nintendo - Game Boy Advance
- Implement prefetch buffer reset on ROM accesses from the CPU.
- Implement that timer 0 count-up bit cannot be set.

Nintendo - Super Famicom / SNES
- Fix an issue where the Super Gameboy 2 was running at the incorrect clock frequency.

Nintendo - Nintendo 64
- Implement newly discovered PI DMA behavior when crossing RDRAM row boundaries.
- Fix a corner face in FPU exception handling

Sega - Mega Drive/Genesis, Mega CD, 32x
- Add the Mega CD's PC RAM to the debugger memory viewer.
- Implement subchannel processing for Mega CD (Allows the playback of CD+G/karaoke discs provided a valid .sub file is provided)

Sony - PlayStation
- Improvements to the handling of the GPUSTAT register.

Other
- Switched back to wglSwapInterval for VSync on OpenGL for Windows; the DwmFlush approach caused worse tearing for most users.
- Fixed an issue where the SDL input driver considered all controllers to be the same device.
- Fixed an issue where rumble events could be missed causing rumble issues in many games.
- Improved VSync stability with the DirectX video driver.

 GameExet GameEx Arcade Edition v18.58
Dimanche 18/02/24 à 17:06 par Firebrand
Ces frontends multi-systèmes ont été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- Updated to latest .net 6 desktop runtime but still the only regularly updated front end tthat supports Windows XP too other than RetroArch.
- Removed a little fat from the GameEx executables.
- Forgot to mention in the previous releaase but the TMDB API is working again and the Movie database within GameEx now supports your online streamed videos. It should build up quite nicely now.
- If you receive false positives with Windows Defender, I have resolved this with Microsoft and you just need to update to the latest Windows Defender definitions.

Jeudi 15/02/24 à 10:58 par Firebrand
Ces frontends multi-systèmes ont été mis à jour. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- I brought the TV functionality in GameEx up to this decade, removed the legacy stuff and it can now act as an IPTV client, supporting M3U plus, XMLTV, Xsream and VOD. It's very simple to configure and supports up to 20 playlists.
- With this I also improved the http video streaming.
- In addition I resolved several minor bugs and resolved a few exceptions that were being swallowed.

Cet émulateur multi-systèmes a été mis à jour. Il sera désormais publié mensuellement, mais pas à date fixe (comme MAME par exemple). Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
New Release Schedule
- Up until now, releases of ares were made when the changes felt 'significant' enough to do so. As of v135, we are moving to a monthly release schedule.
- We will aim to publish a new release each month from this point forward, however, there is no strict date allocated for this, so there's still an aspect of 'when suitable'.

User Interface
- Renamed "Reload" to "Apply" in Driver Settings to clarify its function
- Fixed an issue where the "Deep Black Boost" setting would not save
- Rename FPS to VPS (VBlanks per second), as it represents emulation speed and not game frame rate
- Fixed an issue where the Firmware Path setting would not save

- Simulate SysAD freezes when accessing non-RDRAM areas via the cache
- Improve SI emulation to approximate the correct SI Status values
- Fix a bug where I/O writes to PIF ram would not trigger interrupts
- Improve and extend cache coherency checks
- Implement register mirroring
- Improve PI latch emulation
- Improve PIF HLE emulation by reducing latency

 Mednafen v1.32.0 UNSTABLE
Mercredi 10/01/24 à 17:26 par Firebrand
Une novuelle version de cet émulateur multi-systèmes a été publiée. Les améliorations sont les suivantes:
- The default key mapping(for new configurations) to exit Mednafen is now only "F12", instead of both "ESC" and/or "F12" as before; additionally, a new mapping for "ESC" to close the netplay console/text popup has been added.
- Added command-line option "-ovconfig", to load global override settings from the specified file. The global override settings will override any settings loaded from "mednafen.cfg" or set via command-line arguments, but will be overridden in turn by more-specific per-module and per-game override configuration files.
- Fixed data alignment issue that could produce broken QuickTime videos when using the CSCD codec(the default) with certain combinations of emulation module video settings.
- Added setting "input.grab.strategy", default value of "full". It can be set to "auto" to enable minimalistic grabbing of the system keyboard and/or mouse, when input grabbing is toggled on, dependent on emulating a virtual keyboard and/or virtual mouse/ball device.
- On the Windows build, keyboard grabbing will now capture ALT+Tab and the Windows keys, and discard synthetic left CTRL keypresses generated from pressing AltGr.
- Restored Windows 2000 compatibility, broken in 1.21.0-UNSTABLE, for people who enjoy airgaps, firewalls, and/or insecurities.
- Fixed fatal startup error when running the Mednafen executable from the root directory of a drive on Windows, a regression introduced around version 1.22.0-UNSTABLE.
- Apple2: Added support for Apple IIe and Enhanced IIe, selectable via changing the new "apple2.model" setting, or by utilizing the new "model" directive in a MAI file.
- Apple2: When loading a floppy disk image from a ZIP archive without a MAI file, all other floppy disk images with the same extension in the same directory in the ZIP archive will now also be loaded automatically. If desired, this feature can be disabled by setting the new "apple2.multiload" setting to "0".
- Apple2: Added setting "apple2.input.kb.ghosting", default value of "1", that can be set to "0" to disable emulation of spurious ghost keypresses.
- Apple2: Increased the maximum value of the "apple2.video.color_smooth" setting to "2", which will enable more-aggressive composite video color smoothing.
- Apple2: Added an adjustable composite color video sharpening filter, controlled by the new setting "apple2.video.postsharp".
- Apple2: Reworked how HGR is handled with the "rgb_alt" and "rgb_alt_tfr" video rendering modes, for consistency with DHGR and to correct a few glitches.
- Apple2: Added "rgb_qd" and "rgb_qd_tfr" video rendering modes, which will render DHGR at quarter-resolution, and provide two distinct grays, but are otherwise the same as "rgb" and "rgb_tfr".
- Apple2: Added "rgb_video7" video rendering mode, which supports the additional graphics modes offered by the Apple IIe Video 7 RGB interface, one of which is used by Sierra's AGI games.
- Apple2: Added high-level(no seek delay) ProDOS-compatible hard disk drive emulation, usable by loading a raw hard disk drive image with an "hdv" file extension, and through the "hdd" directive in a MAI file.
- PS1: Added support for Konami's "Pop'n Music" controller.
- SNES-Faust: Fixed distorted graphics in "Marvelous" and "Bishoujo Janshi Suchie-Pai" due to hires color math emulation inaccuracies.
- SNES-Faust: Fixed letter sprite glitches(horizontal black lines) in "Wordtris".
- SNES-Faust: CPU writes to VRAM during active display are now blocked. Fixes missing dialog box and text in "Mazinger Z", title screen corruption in "NBA Pro Basketball: Bulls vs Blazers" and "Shin Nihon Pro Wrestling: Chou Senshi in Tokyo Dome", and graphical garbage during startup in "Zen-Nihon Pro Wres". May break ancient ROM hacks and fan translations.
- SS: Fixed hangs in "Gal Jan", "Kanzen Chuukei Pro Yakyuu Greatest Nine", the USA version of "Creature Shock: Special Edition", and the European versions of "Magic Carpet", "Manx TT SuperBike", and "Revolution X".
- SS: Fixed erroneous red shadows beneath units during the final episode's first battle in "Sakura Taisen".

- SS: Added support for routing SCSP MIDI output to stdout, for debug text output, by changing the new "ss.midi" setting's value to "stdout".

 OpenEmu v2.4.1
Samedi 30/12/23 à 19:00 par Firebrand
Cet ensemble de noyaux d'émulateurs réunis sous une même interface pour MacOS a reçu deux mises à jour. Voici la liste des changements:
v2.4.1
- This is a quick fix to resolve launching on Apple silicon (ARM) Macs. For now, OpenEmu is still Intel-only and will require the use of Rosetta 2 in order to launch on a Mac with Apple silicon.

v2.4
- This long-awaited release contains many bug fixes, performance improvements, compatibility for later macOS, localization updates, framework upgrades, UI/UX tweaks, and a massive codebase modernization with the majority rewritten in Swift. This large undertaking was a few years in the making, and while there may be a few minor regressions in the short term, the result will leave OpenEmu future-proof and easier to maintain. A full list of changes may be added later.

GameEx et GameEx Arcane Edition v18.55
Dimanche 03/12/23 à 13:52 par Firebrand
Ces frontends multi-systèmes ont été mis à jour. Voici la liste des changements:
- Looking to remove any possible video or input lag GameEx will now lower its process prioirty to idle after launching an emulator.
- Fixes to the sync refresh MAME display feature. I revisited all this and looked at GroovyMAME usage on an LCD. It will work with GroovyMAME but on a 5 year old mini PC I reverted to vanilla MAME in my new Chewlix build, I incestigated all this again and other than going with a Mister, your best bet in 2024 is to go for a G Sync monitor for MAME for no tearing and input lag on an flat panel.
- In MAME attract mode the bezel will try to show the logo first if available rather than marquee. Looks mich nicer.
